I offer consultation and art writing services to artists because I enjoy helping artists to focus and distill their disparate creative actions into a cohesive vision. I help artists with a variety of professional writing, including:

Qualifications

I’ve been a practicing artist in Los Angeles for over a decade, and I have written the following successful grant applications for my work: the Guggenheim Award, the Creative Capital Award, the City of Los Angeles Master Artist Fellowship, the Creative Economic Development Fund Grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation, the Fellowship for Visual Artists from the California Community Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Arts Grant and the Whitney Independent Study Program Fellowship. My work has also been supported by the LENS Award at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Area Community Collaborations Fellowship and the Hermitage Artist Fellowship.

I co-authored the Creative Capital Curriculum with Aliza Shvarts, the former Director of Artist Initiatives at Creative Capital, which includes guidance for writing artist statements, project proposals, work descriptions, bios, budgets, timelines and CVs.

For over 10 years, I’ve taught artist statements, thesis writing and other professional development writing to undergraduates and graduate students at the University of Southern California, ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and Pratt Institute in New York.

I received my BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006, and my MFA with an emphasis in Critical Theory from the University of California, Irvine in 2011.

What to expect / rates

Please send me an email to check my availability as I can only accept a limited number of clients at a given time. If you would like to work with me and our availability lines up, we will schedule a 20-30 minute phone consultation in which we discuss what you would like to work on and what I’ll need from you before our first meeting.

Meetings occur over Zoom and last an hour. My rate is $250 for an hour meeting. During our time together, we work closely to line edit and revise your writing. We may rewrite sections together; the amount of co-writing we do will be determined case-by-case. You can think of this time as a kind of tutoring service. I won’t write your statement or application for you, but I will work with you very closely to help you revise your writing in a granular, line-by-line way. Additional follow up meetings can be scheduled as needed. Follow-up meetings can range from 30 minutes to an hour at the same hourly rate.
